The Countdown has begun!

We are approaching our final days of the school year! I have had the pleasure of watching your kids blossom throughout the year, and know that they will do wonderful things as they make their transitions into middle school 🙂 We had a successful visit today at East Cobb Middle. Ask your students to tell you all about it! Please keep an eye out for a flier that will come home soon about the rising 6th grade boot camp that will take place on July 20th from 9am – 12pm at East Cobb Middle.

Over the past few weeks we have been working on our Decades Project. Students will have their wax museum next week, and therefore all components of the project should be done before then. The details are listed in the project guidelines that I have sent home. Your students should have shown given this to you to sign confirming you have seen it.

A few forms were sent home last week in regards to graduation and an order form for our 5th grade shirts. I have received most of them, but I am missing a few. Check with your child to make sure they have shown these documents to you, and please complete these forms and send them back to school as soon as possible. I also sent home a letter requesting for you to send an self-addressed envelope with stamps for your child’s report card. Please refer to the letter, and send the envelope to school as soon as possible. If I do not receive one from you then you would have to pick up your child’s report card from the school over the summer.

There are SO many dates to remember so I had your students write all upcoming events and due dates in their agenda. Please check your child’s agenda so that you are aware of the important dates. That’s all for now! Lets finish strong ladies!!!

Rock Eagle!

We had a wonderful time at Rock Eagle and learned so much while we were there! I will be posting pictures hopefully by the end of this week. We are now back and ready  to learn! We only have 2 more weeks until Spring Break so we will be busy! See below to see what we are learning this week.

This week in math we will continue to work on conversions. In science we will wrap up our electricity and magnetism unit and start on plant and animal cells. In reading we will continue to work in our literacy circles, reading “Number the Stars” and practicing comprehension and constructed response. We will have a test on chapters 1-3 on Friday.

Let’s make a great week Bobcats!

Reminders

Parents, I just want to remind you that we have a mandatory Rock Eagle meeting tonight from 6-7:30.

Girls, we have our “Number The Stars” vocabulary test tomorrow! You should have taken your reading notebooks home with you so that you can study. We also made flashcards in class. I have also given you a study guide for our volume test next week. Please complete the study guide and turn it in on Monday. This weekend you will also have a readworks comprehension passage to complete on magnetism. You will get this tomorrow.

It’s been a while!

Its been a while since I have updated our blog and I apologize! Last week in math we started our geometry unit. We are currently learning about Three Dimensional Figures, and how to find volume. In reading we are currently working in our Daily 5 stations. In these stations we are working on poetry, constructed response, and our literacy circles. We have started reading “Number the Stars” in our literacy groups. In Science we are learning about electric circuits, and working in our stations.

Parents, fliers were sent home today informing you about the Rock Eagle meeting that will take place on Thursday, February 9th from 6-7 in the media center. One parent MUST attend this meeting if your child is going on the trip in March.

Also, our next STEM Day is coming up on February 8th! I sent the STEM Day flier home 2 weeks ago. If you are able to donate supplies please do so by Feb. 7th. We appreciate all of your support!

See you girls tomorrow!

Quarter 3 already?!

I can’t believe how fast the year is flying by! We are slowly getting  back to a “normal” routine after our holiday break and “snow” days 🙂 This quarter in science we are learning  about Electricity and Magnetism. A parent newsletter was sent home explaining some of the content your child will  be learning in science. We started with getting familiar with new vocabulary.  Today, students were able to experience static electricity through their lab stations! Ask  them all about it! If students did not finish their explanation piece of their lab sheet they were asked to complete it for homework and it’s due tomorrow.

In math, we have started our unit in geometry. Today we defined what a polygon is and practiced identifying the difference between a “regular” and “not regular” polygon. They completed independent practice in class, and will  complete pages 907-908 for homework.

In reading, we will  be starting our poetry unit. We will also be learning and practicing how to answer constructed responses questions.

This is a short week Bobcats, so lets make  it count!

Overview of the week

Only 12 more school days until winter break, and that means we will be busy trying to finish up our units! Missing assignment slips went home early last week. Deadline for all missing assignments was today! I will be periodically sending these home. Another great way you can check your child’s grades and any missing assignments is by logging into Parent Vue. If you don’t have access please contact me via e-mail or send a note to school with your child.  See below for details on what we are learning.

Math: we are working on multiplying and dividing fractions, and we will continue reviewing adding and subtracting fractions.

Science: We finished up our Matter lab stations along with Changes in Matter poster project. We are currently working on a Matter Think Tac Toe (TTT)  that incorporates, reading, writing, and language arts. All TTT’s are due on Thursday!

Reading: In reading we are still working in our Literature Circles reading the BFG.

Lets make a great week bobcats!!!

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving Break! This week in math we will continue working with fractions. We will review adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, simplifying fractions, and then moving onto multiplying and dividing fractions. In science we are  working on a Matters Think Tac Toe packet that incorporates writing and reading. This will  take us about 2 weeks to complete. In reading we will continue to work in our Literature Circles studying the BFG.

If you haven’t already sent back progress reports please do so as soon as possible. I also sent out graded work on Friday with a signature slip attached. Please sign the slip and have your child turn it into me this week.

Looking forward to a great week!
